Gratitude Journal: How it Works

A little over a week ago my Mama gave me a gratitude journal. If you have been a reader of mine for a while now, you more than likely know that I have been working a lot on keeping a positive mindset, and focusing on positive affirmations.

Did you know that keeping a gratitude journal helps those things you are affirming to flow even more effectively toward you? It does! Think of it this way: the more grateful you are the more God will give to you…I mean, it makes sense because why would God/the Universe (or whatever it is you believe in…that’s your business) want to keep giving out good things to an ungrateful person if they aren’t going to be thankful for things they already have…

How does a gratitude journal work?

Every day (most of the time before bed) I write a few things that I am grateful for. No matter how big or small. One day it might be a list of things like the a delicious meal I had, or that I had enough time to read a book today. The next day it could be something big that happened, something that I have been waiting on for a long time.

My point is each and every day there is something to appreciate. Found a new show you really liked on Netflix today? You can write that down. Did you get married/engaged last night? Write it in there!!! Whatever it is that brought you joy put that in your gratitude journal. Make sure you feel thankful as you write these things down. Otherwise you are simply writing stuff. Write it like you mean it!

Same goes for positive affirmations (if you need to know more about what those really are, click the link in the beginning paragraph of this post.) You have to say your affirmations with feeling, almost as if you are an actor rehearsing a scene. You have to believe what you are saying in order for them to work.

You can just use a plain old notebook that you already have laying around the house if you want, that part isn’t important, all that matters is that you fill it with things you are grateful for. Sometimes it might be harder than others. Somedays might be rough and all you can think to be grateful for is your toothbrush. That still counts (y’all already know how I feel about brushing! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜)
